What are steel sheet pile types?
What are steel sheet pile types?

Steel sheet pile typesare divided according to the production process: cold-formed thin-walled type and hot-rolled type;

Steel sheet pile types are divided by lock form: Ravana style, Larsen style. At present, domestic and international mainstream hot-rolled steel sheet piles mostly refer to Larsen type.

Steel sheet pile types are divided by cross-sectional shape: U-shaped, Z-shaped, straight-line, H-shaped, and tube-shaped. At present, the market mainly uses U-type and Z-type with higher frequency.

Characteristics of cold-formed steel sheet pile types

The cold-formed steel sheet pile is continuously rolled and formed by the cold-formed machine, and the side locks can be continuously lapped to form a steel structure of the sheet pile wall. Cold-formed steel sheet piles can be applied to permanent structures such as docks, freight yards, breakwaters, docks, water pipes, cut-off walls, water retaining walls, etc., as well as temporary structures such as excavated retaining walls, temporary revetment cofferdams, and temporary central islands.

Hot-rolled (Lassen) steel sheet piles (Lassen Steel Sheet Pile) began to be produced in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. After being imported from Japan for the first time in 1903 and used in soil retaining construction, based on the special performance of steel sheet piles, they were also used in It was widely used in the restoration project of the Great Kanto Earthquake, and production began in Japan in 1931. my country's Hebei Jinxi Iron and Steel Group began to officially produce hot-rolled (Larsen) steel sheet piles in 2014. The product quality has reached the standards of Japan, Europe, and other countries, filling the gap in the field of steel sheet piles in my country.

Basic structure of hot-rolled (Larsen) steel sheet piles:

One is a steel sheet pile, the other is a joint structure on both sides, and the third is to form a wall in the ground or in the water.

Unique advantages of hot-rolled (Larsen) steel sheet piles:

(1) High-strength, light-weight, and good water-proof performance; strong durability, with a service life of 20-50 years; reusable, generally 3-5 times;

(2) The environmental protection effect is remarkable, and the amount of soil borrowed and the amount of concrete used can be greatly reduced during construction, effectively protecting land resources;

(3) It has a strong function of disaster relief and rescue, especially in the rescue and relief of flood prevention, landslides, subsidence, and quicksand, and the effect is particularly fast;

(4) The construction is simple, the construction period is shortened, and the construction cost is relatively low.

(5) In addition, steel sheet piles can handle and solve a series of problems that arise during the excavation process; the use of steel sheet piles can provide the necessary safety, and the timeliness (for disaster relief) is strong; it can reduce the requirements for space; it is not affected by weather Restriction of conditions; in the process of using steel sheet piles, it can simplify the complex procedures of checking the performance of materials or systems; ensure its adaptability and good interchangeability.

The main difference of steel sheet pile types between cold-formed piles and hot-rolled (Larsen) steel sheet piles:

(1) Cold-rolled piles are mostly processed by 8-14MM thick plate cold-formed forming units, and the thickness of the pile body is basically the same; in order to meet the requirements of anti-corrosion, the thickness of hot-rolled piles is generally greater than 10mm, and there is a clear sense of undulation at the lock.

(2) Under the same construction conditions, the shape of the lock of the cold-formed pile is difficult to control, and the bayonet is not tight and easy to leak; the lock of the hot-rolled pile is tightly occluded, and the seepage resistance is better.

(3) The size of the cold-formed section cannot be optimized, resulting in a large amount of steel consumption, and a large amount of stress generated during use, and the pile body is easy to tear during use, which has great limitations in use.

(4) Cold-formed steel sheet piles are mostly used in permanent projects, and hot-rolled steel sheets are mostly used in temporary projects.
