 The following is an introduction to zinc-aluminum-magnesium materials:

 

Zinc-aluminum-magnesium coil is a product produced from hot rolled coil->pickling coil->cold rolled coil->ZAM coating. Its coating contains zinc, aluminum, magnesium, etc.  The coatings made of  Zinc-aluminum-magnesium have been available on the market for a shorter period of time than conventional zinc coatings,

The plane corrosion resistance of zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating materials is more than double that of ordinary hot-dip galvanized materials, and the corrosion resistance of zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating materials after different molding methods is 2 to 5 times higher than ordinary hot-dip galvanized materials.

 

The neutral salt spray test (NSS test) is an accelerated corrosion test method that has been widely used in the field since its appearance. It uses a 5% sodium chloride saline solution, and the pH value of the solution is adjusted in the neutral range (6-7) as a solution for spraying. The test temperature is 35°C, and the sedimentation rate of salt mist is required to be between 1 and 2ml/80cm².h.

The following are the results of two sets of neutral salt spray tests.

 The first set is Baosteel’s zinc-aluminum-magnesium coil and hot-dip galvanized coil, and the second set is Yuantai’s zinc-aluminum-magnesium tube and galvanized strip tube:

Stock pregalvanized tubes surface rating: Grade 1: Defect area accounts for 35%~45%, appearance grade I (cracks), and the sample shows matrix metal corrosion.

Surface rating of  Stock zinc-aluminum-magnesium tube of Yuantai Derun Group: Grade 8: defect area accounts for 0.15%~0.2%, appearance grade B (almost no darkening caused by corrosion of the covering layer), and the surface of the sample has slight discoloration;

Advantages of zinc aluminum magnesium coil and pure zinc galvanized products:

 

1. Longer life and higher Corrosion resistance: The time for zinc-aluminum-magnesium-coated steel to appear red rust is more than four times that of pure zinc-coated steel, and its corrosion depth is about 1/4 of that of pure zinc-coated.

The plane corrosion resistance of zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating materials is more than double that of ordinary hot-dip galvanized materials.

The corrosion resistance of zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating materials after different forming methods is 2 to 5 times higher than that of ordinary hot-dip galvanized materials.

 

For example: ZM120 is at least equivalent to the anti-corrosion performance and service life of Z240, and ZM275 zinc-aluminum-magnesium photovoltaic support will not produce red embroidery for at least 25 years in an ordinary environment C1.

 

2. Lightweight: The density of the zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating is 6.45 ± 0.05 g cm−3.

 If the zinc-aluminum-magnesium photovoltaic support is used in rooftop photovoltaics, no additional reinforcement of the roof is required.

3. Self-healing ability, cutting-edge anti-rust protection:

When the zinc-aluminum-magnesium coating is severely damaged, such as cracks or scratches, elements such as zinc and aluminum contained in it will be repaired through a self-healing mechanism. Specifically, when the coating is damaged, elements such as zinc and aluminum in it react with moisture and oxygen in the surrounding environment and form a dense hydroxide layer that prevents further corrosion and damage, and It can fill defects such as cracks or scratches in the coating, thereby prolonging the service life of the material.

4. Environmental protection, Yuantai Derun Group has high-end advanced acid regeneration production equipment and technology, Not only can recycle chromium and nickel heavy metals every year, but the consumption of various new acids will be greatly reduced. The difficulty and cost of subsequent wastewater treatment will be greatly reduced.

Zinc-aluminum-magnesium materials with high zinc layers and high strength have been widely used in photovoltaic projects, 5G infrastructure, automotive steel plates, and other fields.

 Suitable applications: construction (building construction panels, perforated panels, metal exterior walls, roofs), automotive, agricultural applications (chicken farms, pig farms, hoop buildings, granaries, silos, etc.), greenhouse structures, industrial HVAC, cooling towers, solar racking, school bus decks, swimming pools, road signs, fence facades, coastal environments, cable trays, switch boxes, steel decks and frames, sound/wind/snow barriers and many other applications.
