1. Overview of galvanized pipes:
In order to improve the corrosion resistance of steel pipes, general steel pipes are galvanized. Galvanized pipes (galvanized steel pipes) are divided into two types: hot-dip galvanizing and cold-dip galvanizing. Hot-dip galvanizing has a thick zinc layer and has the advantages of uniform coating, strong adhesion, and long service life. Cold-dip galvanized pipes are low-cost, have not very smooth surfaces, and have much lower corrosion resistance than hot-dip galvanized pipes, so they have been gradually phased out.
2. Classification and characteristics of galvanized pipes:
Galvanized pipes are divided into hot-dip galvanized steel pipes and cold-dip galvanized steel pipes, among which cold-dip galvanized steel pipes have been gradually phased out.
(1) Hot-dip galvanized pipe/hot-dip galvanized steel pipe
Hot-dip galvanizing reacts molten metal with an iron matrix to produce an alloy layer, thereby combining the matrix and the coating. The manufacturing of hot-dip galvanized pipes is to first pickle the steel pipes to remove the iron oxide on the surface of the steel pipes. After pickling, they are cleaned in an aqueous solution of ammonium chloride or zinc chloride or a mixed aqueous solution of ammonium chloride and zinc chloride and then sent into the hot dip plating tank.
Hot-dip galvanized steel pipe is a complex physical and chemical reaction between the steel pipe matrix and the molten plating bath to form a corrosion-resistant zinc-iron alloy layer with a tight structure. The alloy layer is integrated with the pure zinc layer and the steel pipe matrix, so hot-dip galvanized steel pipes have the advantages of uniform coating, strong adhesion, and long service life.
(2) Cold galvanized pipe/cold galvanized steel pipe
Cold galvanizing is electro-galvanizing. The amount of galvanizing is very small, only 10-50g/m2. Its corrosion resistance is much worse than that of hot-dip galvanized pipes. Because the zinc layer is thin, the zinc layer simply adheres to the steel pipe matrix and easily falls off, so the corrosion resistance of cold-dip galvanized steel pipes is poor.
